Plain Dosa

Ingredients:

(For making batter)
  • 1 cup whole skinned urad dal
  • 3 cups idli rice
  • Salt as needed

  • Making The Batter

    1. Soak the urad dal and idli rice in water for about 5 hrs. (each in different containers)
    2. After Soaking the skin/shell of the urad dal will start to come off remove all those by rinsing the dal with water till the shell goes off and you see the white or cream color dal
    3. Put the Rice and the Dal in a mixer- grinder let it grind till the batter has a consistency you needed.(You might want to add some water if the  batter becomes too thick)
    4. keep the batter aside for 12 hrs. at least for 6 hrs.(For Fermentation)
    5. Your Dosa batter is Ready.

    Making Dosa

    1. After 12hrs. check the consistency of the batter by stirring
    2. Add some water if the batter is too thick
    3. heat the tawa and wipe the tawa with a cloth wet with oil    
    4. After it has heated take the batter in a bowl which has a flat base and pour the batter onto the tawa and spread the batter while doing a circling motion with the bowl until the batter becomes thin and in a round shape
    5. 5min later flip it with a spatula and leave it for 2min
    6. Your plain dosa is ready.
              It taste's good with the Traditional coconut chutney
